About Black Barn

The Black Barn sits near the banks of Pipestone creek, surrounded by 454 acres of working farmland. The farm was originally a homestead, established in 1902 by William

Johnston, one of the first to settle in the Pipestone area. The land is still farmed, and with Black Barn they are transforming this piece of Alberta history to celebrate what they value most – family. A wedding starts a special chapter in your story, and they are looking to make it a bestseller!

Located in Pipestone, Alberta, which is 30 minutes south of the Edmonton International Airport. Black Barn is nestled between fertile fields and tranquil waters under miles of living skies. The barn itself is enveloped by manicured grass and set within acres of golden wheat and canola. Black Barn’s aesthetic is characterized by the simplicity, open design, and functionality ingrained from our Swiss and Scandinavian heritage.

The family has lovingly preserved the historic architecture of the classic gambrel roof barn of a 1950’s-era dairy, while completely remodelling the interior into a modern and luxurious event facility.

A Place That Feels Like Home

The Black Barn holds a special place in our hearts. It’s the venue we know best and one we return to time and time again — not just because of its beauty, but because of the people behind it.

The family who runs the Black Barn feels like an extension of our own, and every time we arrive, it truly feels like coming home. That familiarity allows us to work seamlessly, comfortably, and with confidence — creating weddings that feel warm, effortless, and deeply personal.
